THE BOARD EXAMINATION MORASS

The CBSE, the finest bastion of academic edifice in the country has put an uncertain end to the morass surrounding the board examinations of class 10 and 12 amidst the surging coronavirus cases in the country. In what seemed to be an attempt to call a truce with students, the recent announcement by the board only seems to be an overture to a more complex debate. While the announcement came as a partial relief to class 10 students, the uncertainty surrounding class 12 examinations has only made students more anxious about the possible end.

As an 18-year-old myself, who has had a rather mundane existence throughout the past year and a half, the lone driving force to sustain the mammoth task of studying was a farfetched yet certain end to the 15 years of school life. The announcement to postpone the examination until a further announcement on June 1 has made students complacent towards the prospect of studies. Many have begun to extrapolate about the possible course of action by the government while many have deserted textbooks and are luxuriating in dreams of vacations in exotic locations as soon as restrictions are eased. Without credible sources providing information to students it is not wrong on their part to believe in surmises that offer them at least an ephemeral sense of relief.

While no better solution would have been plausible to provide respite to a beleaguered mass of students, the concerned authorities should have tried to discern the fears of students rather than jumping the bandwagon with a decision as complex as this. The opposition parties too instead of indulging in the political blame game had to offer constructive solutions to the issue. Even as there is no point in crying over spilled milk, the academic experience during the pandemic has to be studied to the furthest extent possible, for situations like these are likely to occur in the future and what is needed is timely and systematic intervention instead of a ham-handed approach.

Even as the future looks bleak and uncertain, all kudos to each one of us who have been keeping the spirits high throughout this novel and difficult experience and going unscathed to accomplish aspirations of a bright future lying ahead of us.
